Jesus Is God

“Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him . . . he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” (John 14:8-9)
Theologians have wrestled with the dual nature of the Lord Jesus since the beginning. On the one hand, there are those who deny or belittle His humanity, and on the other hand, there are those who deny His deity. Both natures are completely true: Jesus is fully human and fully God.
The prophets identified the coming Messiah as fully God. Isaiah 9:6 is the “naming” prophecy that specifies that the Messiah would be called “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 7:14 specifies that “the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Matthew quotes that passage and translates the Hebrew word Immanuel as “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
The Scriptures abound with this teaching.
He is called the only begotten (John 1:14, 18; 3:16; 1 John 4:9).

He is called the Son of God (John 3:18; 5:25; 9:35; 11:4).

He is recognized as eternal (John 17:5, 24; Colossians 1:15; Micah 5:2).

He has the power of life in Himself (Romans 1:4; John 10:17-18; Colossians 1:18; Acts 13:32-33).

He is given the inheritance of God (Hebrews 1:2; 3:4, 6).

He performed the works of God (John 10:36-38).

Even the demons and Satan recognize Christ as God (Luke 4:41; Matthew 4:3, 6).

The Living Word

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

This is the great verse of the Incarnation, declaring to us that the Creator of all things, the eternal Word of God (John 1:1-3) actually became a man, being “made flesh” (our text). Since this verse and the following verses unequivocally refer to “Jesus Christ” (v. 17), there is no legitimate escape (though many have tried) from the great truth that the man called Jesus of Nazareth was the great God and Creator, as well as perfect man and redeeming Savior. Furthermore, He has assumed human flesh forever, while still remaining fully God. He is Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).

He is not part man and part God, or sometimes man and sometimes God, but is now the God-man, fully and eternally true God and perfect man—man as God created and intended man to be. See also Philippians 2:5-8 and 1 John 4:2-3.

When He first became man, He “dwelt among us” for a while. The word “dwelt,” however, is actually the Greek word for “tabernacled.” As in the tabernacle (or “tent”) prepared by Moses (Exodus 40:33) in the wilderness, the glory of God in Christ dwelled on Earth for a time in a “body” prepared by God (Hebrews 10:5). We also “beheld his glory,” says His beloved disciple, John. The Greek word for “tabernacle” (skene) is a cognate word to shakan (the Hebrew word for “dwell”), both being related to what has come to be known as the Shekinah glory cloud that filled the ancient tabernacle (Exodus 40:34).

Eventually, when the Holy City descends out of heaven to the new earth, then “the tabernacle of God” will forever be “with men,” and He will “dwell with them” and “be their God” eternally (Revelation 21:3). Thus, God’s “Living Word” is now and always our living Lord!

SHERIFF TO ATHEIST GROUP: “WE WON’T BE BULLIED. I ONLY BOW TO ONE MAN—BUT YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN HIM ANYWAY”

illinois-sheriff-in-god-we-trust-squad-cars

An Illinois sheriff called freethinking Freedom From Religion Foundation representatives oppressors, and is vowing not to back down from their legal threats after they said the two nativity scenes erected at the local courthouse last month were unconstitutional. The sheriff just penned an excoriating letter to the activists proclaiming he will not bow to “bullies.”

The battle surfaced after one of the foundation’s attorneys sent a letter to the Jefferson County Board to complain about Sheriff Travis Allen’s decision to put the Christian scenes on display along with other holiday elements at the courthouse. The foundation is a national nonprofit whose staff and members believe in nontheism, and are dedicated to the Constitutional principle of separation of church and state.

Allen rejects the charge that the nativities are unconstitutional. “We’re not putting crosses at the courthouse. We’re not putting Bible verses up. This is a Christmas display,” Allen told WPSD-TV. “What has our country become when we can’t put a nativity scene out in celebration of Christmas because we’re worried about offending somebody That’s embarrassing!”

Allen said he added the nativities to help celebrate the Christmas spirit, noting there used to be a “big Christmas celebration” in the past and that many citizens had requested a new display be put out; so he complied, reports The Blaze.

Foundation lawyer Ryan Jayne maintains the county courthouse lawn is not the right spot to be having religious debates. Jayne told WPSD-TV, alleging in a Jan. 22 letter to local officials that Allen “promotes and endorses the Christian religious aspects of Christmas” – something the attorney said is unconstitutional.

In a Jan. 27 response letter, Allen accused the Freedom From Religion Foundation of including “half-truths” in its letter, and claimed the organization did not include photo evidence of the other non-Christian elements that were part of the holiday display.

“Your letter was full of half truths and I think we both know the court of law does not make decisions in half truths,” Allen wrote. “You did not even take a picture of the inflatable penguin, which I am sure you are also offended by.”

In his letter, he also asked the foundation about its reported 700 members in Illinois. “I would like to know how many reside in Jefferson County,” he wrote. “I am not sure I would be bragging about 700 members in a state that has almost 13 million residents. We have almost 10 times as many people on our Facebook page.”

Allen said he was the foundation attorney sent the letter to the County Board because they thought they could bully them into complying with their demands. “The thing is, in Jefferson County, we don’t really like bullies, and we are not very good at bowing down to organizations. I actually only bow to one man, but you don’t believe in him anyway,” he included in the letter.

Allen and the Freedom From Religion Foundation representatives previously clashed over the presence of “In God We Trust” on squad cars.

New Group is ‘Much More Dangerous’ Than ISIS

A terrorist group you’ve probably never heard of may be the greatest threat America faces.

A new report on threats to America has been issued by the American Enterprise Institute and the Institute for the Study of War. It claims that Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al Qaeda, is “much more dangerous to the U.S. than the ISIS model in the long run.” Why?

ISIS is alienating Muslims worldwide with its horrific executions, rapes, and forced allegiance to its ideology. Al-Nusra is following a more gradual strategy. It provides services to Syrians, builds strong relationships with local communities, and focuses primarily on fighting the al-Assad government.

According to Middle East expert Fred Kagan, the group is “quietly intertwining itself with the Syrian population and Syrian opposition. . . . They are waiting in the wings to pick up the mantle of global jihad once ISIS falls.”

As a result, defeating ISIS will not defeat Islamist terrorism. A recent report listed eighty-three different Islamist groups it classified as “terrorist organizations.” We are waging a generational conflict with a movement passionately committed to global conquest. (For more, please read my white paper, Is Islam a Religion of Violence or Peace?)

To defeat your adversary, you must be more committed to victory than your opponent. This principle is true in politics, athletics, and business, as well as in war.

The same is true spiritually. Early Christianity spread quickly because early Christians were passionately committed to the cause of Christ. Jesus was clear: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). The first believers were willing to live—and die—for Jesus. And millions were drawn to the Lord they loved and served so passionately.

Now Jesus is calling us to follow him as sacrificially as those who first called him Lord. God is grieved when Muslims die for a lie while Christians sit on the sidelines of this spiritual battle.

Take a moment right now to surrender your day to Jesus. Choose to be “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20). Put him in charge of your plans, opportunities, and challenges. Tell him you will do whatever it takes, whatever he asks, whatever the cost. Decide you will live for the Savior who died for you.

ISIS and other terrorist groups will pay any price to spread their message of hate. What price will you pay to spread Jesus’ message of love?

Preacher Appeals Conviction for ‘Emotional Harm’ Caused by Quoting ‘Wrong’ Scripture About Homosexuality

A street preacher in the UK who was charged with making “homophobic” remarks and was ordered to pay a fine for his speech, including to a man to whom he quoted Scripture from the book of Leviticus, is to appear in court today for an appeal of his conviction.

As previously reported, Mike Overd, a street preacher for five years, was accused of speaking against homosexuality and Islam last June and July on two separate occasions. He was leveled with two charges of using threatening and abusive words and a charge of causing racially or religiously aggravated harassment, alarm or distress under the Public Order Act.

In March, Judge Shamim Qureshi, a Muslim who also serves as the presiding judge at the Sharia law-based Muslim Arbitration Tribunal, declared Overd guilty of violating the Public Order Act for his remarks to a homosexual man who stopped to talk to him about sexuality.

Qureshi specifically expressed concern that Overd quoted from Leviticus 12:13, which reads, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” He said that the preacher should have selected another verse that was less offensive.

“If Leviticus 20:13 is not considered threatening and abusive words that will be a licence to all and sundry from the drunkard to the violent extremist of any faith to use it as a code word without being convicted of homophobic crime,” Qureshi said in his ruling.

“I cannot interpret the law in the way Mr. Overd and his legal team ask,” he continued. “Such a decision would not be the upholding of equal human rights and would be seized upon by fundamentalists and extremists to be the first step to public disorder.”

But Overd said that he did not quote the second half of the Scripture in witnessing to the man, and doesn’t believe he should be told what he can and can’t cite from the Bible.

“I did not quote the full text of Leviticus 20 or make reference to the death penalty, but the judge is telling me that I should use other parts of the Bible,” he stated. “This is not free speech but censorship. The judge is redacting the Bible.”

Overd was fined 1,400 British pounds, the equivalent of approximately $2,090 dollars, part of which was to go to the man to whom he had quoted the Scripture. The street preacher initially resisted the fine, but was then threatened with jail time if he did not comply.

Overd subsequently appealed his conviction, which he believes is baseless.

“It is extraordinary that the judge is deciding which Bible verses can and can’t be used in public,” he remarked in a statement on Thursday. “Since when did it become a judge’s role to redact the Bible because he thinks that the public can’t cope with what it says? It is frightening to see the judiciary crossing the line and becoming self-appointed arbiters of Christian teaching.”

The preacher said there was no hatred behind quoting the Scripture, just an explanation of what the Bible says.

“I have been ordered to pay compensation for causing ’emotional pain’ to someone who approached me aggressively, demanding to debate the issue. There was no harm, injury or theft, just a disagreement over theology, for which I have now been fined,” he remarked in a statement on Tuesday.

“My motivation for preaching the gospel is my love for Jesus Christ and my deep concern for people who do not know His great love and are heading towards an eternity separated from God,” Overd said.

Government Crackdown Forces Chinese Church to Close

A house church in China has been told by the Chinese government that it may no longer conduct worship services.
According to Christian Today, the small church of about 50 members in Dazhou, Sichuan province, was told last month that it may no longer rent an apartment where it held religious services.
Li Shengfen, a member of the church, stated: “They looked at our Bibles. After that, in order to understand our church, they looked at our poetry. Because the place where we worship has a cross, a Bible and some scripture on the walls, they looked at it all. I said ‘Right now, is this freedom of religion?’ If we go to the city to meet, many of the Christians are old and some people get carsick. I said, ‘How can you not give us freedom?'”
The Chinese government’s mandate to this house church is part of a larger government crackdown on churches and freedom of religion which has escalated under Chinese President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
Christian Today reports that up to 1,700 churches have been demolished and their large red crosses removed as part of a campaign supposedly meant to expose and remove “illegal structures.”
In addition, many Christians and human rights activists have been jailed for speaking out against this restriction of religious freedom.

Pope Francis Criticizes Fundamentalists Who Believe They Possess ‘Absolute Truth’

Pope Francis has strictly denounced proponents of fundamentalism who claim that they possess “absolute truth.”(1.)
The Pontiff recently concluded his three-country tour of Africa, visiting the Central African Republic, Uganda, and Kenya.
The Christian Post reports that during an in-flight press conference on his return trip to Rome, Francis stated,“We Catholics have some–and not some, many–who believe they possess the absolute truth and go ahead dirtying the other with calumny, with disorientation, and doing evil. They do evil. I say this because it is my Church.”(2.)
He added that “ideas and false certainties” can replace faith, love, and God.
The Pope said he was pleased with his trip to Africa where he focused on bringing unity between Christians and Muslims. (3.)
“We are living at a time when religious believers, and persons of goodwill everywhere are called to foster mutual understanding and respect, and to support each other as members of our one human family. For all of us are God’s children,” Francis stated. (4.)
Francis also commented on the climate change talks in Paris, stating, “We are on the verge of suicide, to put it strongly.” He urged world leaders to take action on this issue. (5.)
==============================
Notes:
1. Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life” (John 14:6)
2. Jesus is not the head of the Catholic church because that church is a man made religious system. Jesus is the head of his true church.
3. Christians and Muslims do not worship the same God. Bible believing Christians follow The One True God whereas Muslims follow the false god of the Koran. Allah is not a real god, he’s just a false idol that people worship, just like and Hindu god, etc.
4. Only those that are born again are called the children of God ( John 1:2, Galatians 3:26, Romans 8:17)
Those that haven’t bent the knee to Jesus Christ and received Him as Lord and Saviour are children of the devil. (John 8:44, 2John 1:9)

Texas 7th-Grader Who Refused to Deny God Calls School Board ‘Liars’

12-year-old Jordan Wooley, the Texas girl who spoke out after her teacher made her say that God is a myth, says she has been bullied and told to kill herself after media coverage of the incident.

It all began when Jordan’s teacher assigned a quiz asking students at West Memorial Junior High School in Katy, Texas, to label statements as “fact, assertion, or opinion.”

Among the statements were “America is the most free country on Earth” and “there is a God.” After Jordan labeled the latter as a “fact,” her teacher told her to deny God or get an “F.”

The Katy Independent School District denied the incident ever happened and claimed no one could verify Jordan’s story. But that didn’t stop her from calling the board members “liars” and asking for an apology in a statement on Monday.

After the story was covered extensively in the media, some people have called Jordan terrible names and told her to kill herself, she explained to Clayton Morris on “Fox and Friends Weekend.”

“I’ve lost a few of my close friends, but that’s what will happen,” she said.

Despite that, Jordan said she’s not backing down.

“I’m going to keep going until something gets done, and until something gets done, I’m not going to stop.”

Watch more above and see Jordan’s statement to the school board below.

Business Structure: Servants

By: Henry M. Morris

“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.” (Colossians 3:22)

Most of the world accepted slavery as ordinary social strata for much of recorded history. Slavery was certainly normal during the time of Roman domination and therefore public routine when the apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian church.

The most common term (and the term most often used by the apostles) is doulos, a bondslave, purchased by an owner and viewed as property under the legal system of Rome. Many of the biblical instructions are given to the doulos of a household or business enterprise.

The English word “employee” of today is essentially the same as the servant of biblical times. The “master” of today purchases service with wages rather than buying the life of the “servant” from a slave broker. The biblical instructions to employees are just as valid today as they were to the doulos of Bible times.

  • “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers” (Ephesians 6:5-6).
  • “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour” (1 Timothy 6:1).
  • “Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward” (1 Peter 2:18).

All similar commands insist that a godly doulos should give the same effort and same quality to his employer as he would to the Lord Jesus. “But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness” (Romans 6:17-18). HMM III
